3-2-1, Campaign Kick-Off!

I'm sitting here in the Kappa Sigma house with about 25 volunteers who have come to help the Bookhout/LeNarz campaign kick off in style. This is the place to be if you want to see an overabundance of maroon and tan imagery and feel an effervescent sense of excitement at starting what is sure to be an exciting and fulfilling campaign.

Tonight is about planting the seeds of effective communication for the duration of this campaign. As with any up-to-date campaign, from the Obama/McCain race on down to the Jordan/Coody mayoral run-off, we'll be tapping the vast resources of the Internet to reach out to an unprecedented number of students in this election. One of the keys to winning this election for us (shhh, don't tell anyone) is mobilizing students that are traditionally ignored. Our philosophy is that there is no reason that 5,000 students (less than one out of four in our student population) shouldn't vote in this election.

Part of our strategy in reaching the maximum amount of students is using Facebook to expose a large number of students to our experience and platform. One thing that we are doing differently this year is trying to restrain the Facebook campaign group to Arkansas students, to effectively represent the number of people supporting us on campus, rather than inflating our numbers by having friends from other schools ballooning our numbers. While the group will still be "global," so that our friends at other campuses can support us, we hope that it will primarily be expressive of our support here in Fayetteville.

Whether you're concerned about how your voice is being represented to the administration, what the priorities are for administering ASG allocations, or ensuring that this and future generations of students have the best academic experience available in the State of Arkansas, this is the ticket for you, and I hope we will earn your vote over the course of the next two weeks.
