Mattie and Andrew made stops tonight along fraternity row and to other houses off Stadium Drive to make their pitches during the yearly Row Week festivities. Despite our disappointment at Lil Wayne not showing up to the Lambda Chi house (entirely his own fault, not that of the fraternity itself = he's definitely off my CD shopping list), we were happily surprised to see much of the crowd sporting Bookhout-LeNarz stickers, along with a plethora of Brophey/Storm stickers to go along with them (Geoff Storm being a Lambda Chi).
**Uncomfortable Post Warning**
Being a non-Greek in the Greek social circle certainly makes you think of the (purported) divide between these folks and so-called “independents”. Being one of these GDI's that perennially supports Greek candidates, I have had to defend my stances time and again. The simple fact of the matter is that the Greek community promotes involvement, leadership development, and social networking. Which of these three things is not necessary to be an effective leader of our student body, and to win an election? Good answer, faithful readers. None.
Does the Greek community also get a bad rap for promoting negative activities too? Sure does, and for good reason. But those aren't the Greeks we're talking about running on our ticket. We're talking about two proven leaders who have the experience and platform to take Associated Student Government and our student body into the next year.
Guess what how Mattie and Andrew pre-gamed for the Row parties tonight? By sitting in the Senate Appropriations Committee meeting, preparing allocations for RSO's. Take that, stereotypes.
