VICTORY

With 2,133 votes (63.1% of the vote), Mattie Bookhout was elected President of the 2009-2010 Associated Student Government of the University of Arkansas.

With 1,903 votes (57.3% of the vote), Andrew LeNarz was elected Vice President of the 2009-2010 Associated Student Government of the University of Arkansas.

In a three-way student government race, it is often very difficult to capture a majority in the first round, and not have to face a run-off. It speaks to the widespread support that we garnered on campus, and the unceasing motivation and dedication of our campaign staff and volunteers to see Mattie and Andrew get elected, that we did not. Again, I cannot say enough how proud I am to have worked on this campaign, met the many new friends that I have made, and been able to see our two candidates learn and grow in this process.

Congratulations are also in order for Geoff Storm and David Brophey, elected Secretary and Treasurer or ASG, respectively. We are looking forward to working with them to shape ASG into an organization that realizes its maximum potential and becomes a stronger voice for our student constituents on this campus. However, congratulations are also in order for the candidates not elected yesterday. Jonathan Powell, Jacob Holloway, Jon Bame, Robert Sharp, Jody Bland, and Erica Harmon each ran respected and powerful campaigns that mobilized students on dozens of issues, brought serious questions to the table, and forced us to examine our positions on the topics that they drove. We are thankful to them for their service and we hope it will continue into next year's ASG administration.

I can't say for certain whether this will be my last post on this blog, because it has been an innovative and entertaining tool for communication, and an outlet for the progress of the campaign. I hope anyone interested in ASG or running for student office will take a look at this "timeline" of the campaign week and see the level of commitment that has gone into the election.

It's been fun having you all along for the ride, and I'm so proud of where it has taken us.

With Razorback pride,

-Will
